The short version

Cloakmoji turns messages into emojis on your phone. We never see your messages, we have no server, and there is no account.

Your messages

Messages are turned into emojis, and back, entirely on your device. Cloakmoji never uploads, stores or sends the text you write or the messages you open.

You choose where to send the emojis (a chat app, for example). That app's own privacy policy applies to what you send through it.

Messages locked with a password are encrypted with ChaCha20-Poly1305, using a key made from the password with scrypt. We cannot open them and cannot recover a forgotten password.

Messages without a password are only scrambled, not encrypted. Anyone who has Cloakmoji can open them.

What stays on your phone

Cloakmoji keeps a few settings on your device: the emoji style you used last, your choices in Settings (light or dark, vibration, the "how to open it" line), how many secrets you have sent, when you unlocked the extra styles, and a list of short fingerprints of "read once" messages you have opened, so they do not open again. None of it contains the text of a message, and none of it leaves your phone. Uninstalling the app deletes it.

When you tap Paste, Cloakmoji reads your clipboard once to find the message. It does not read the clipboard at any other time.

Ads

Cloakmoji is free and shows ads from Google AdMob. To show and measure ads, Google may collect information such as your device's advertising ID, your IP address and basic device information. See how Google uses data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, you are asked for consent first, and you can change your choice at any time under About, Ad privacy choices. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings.

Ads never have access to your messages.

Permissions

Cloakmoji uses internet access only so that ads can load, and vibration for the small taps you feel on buttons. It does not use your camera, microphone, contacts, photos, files or location.

Children

Cloakmoji is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, the new version will be in the app and on this page with a new date.
